Back in May 2019, Meme Factory launched their digital blockchain collectibles marketplace featuring none other than internet memes! The difference with the memes on this particular website is that you have the chance to purchase these memes and actually own them as digital assets on the Ethereum cryptocurrency blockchain. How has it fared? It seems to have done fairly well, as who on the internet doesn’t love a good meme?RSS Feed
Investors thought it was a pretty good idea back in 2017, too, as the creator of the marketplace - District0x Network - raised $9 million worth of Ethereum cryptocurrency to back the venture. The gambit worked, as the decentralized collectibles marketplace is active today. As of October 2019, they’re holding contests for new memes to be sold on the website.
Here’s how Meme Factory works, according to the initial CoinDesk launch announcement
“The marketplace enables users such as artists to create original tokenized memes and submit them for consideration to what’s dubbed the Dank Registry. Registry curators, who are holders of the project’s DANK token, will then scan the submissions and decide which memes will make it to the platform. Finally, collectors can buy those memes using ETH...”
