On September 18, 2019, South Korean blockchain gaming pioneer Planetarium announced their Blockchain RPG game, Nine Chronicles! While it’s not the first blockchain RPG by any means, it is the first completely moddable decentralized RPG “powered by the players.” From the looks of it, there’s a strong chance that this may be the blockbuster game that brings blockchain gaming into the mainstream.RSS Feed
There are many reasons for me to be excited to check this game out. First off, Nine Chronicles, which released in late 2019 with its first alpha version, is a side-scrolling RPG. For many years, I dreamed of creating a side-scrolling RPG that players could easily mod to create their own levels, characters, equipment, and more. That’s exactly what Nine Chronicles is aiming to be. The game itself comes with nine worlds to explore and features an extensive crafting system. But, as Castle Crypto noted in their feature of Nine Chronicles, the ability to mod the game completely could allow the game not only to succeed, but even thrive forever.
As Castle Crypto notes:
“...Nine Chronicles is built on a completely moddable architecture and will be fully open sourced. To give developers access to the game’s most fundamental aspects, the game is powered by Planetarium’s Libplanet blockchain library written for the popular Unity game engine.
Using Libplanet, developers can create entire new worlds and features for Nine Chronicles and share them through the game’s peer-to-peer network.”
I’m very excited to see what Kijun Seo and his Planetarium team release in the coming months. If it’s as good as it looks and sounds, it is going to turn the gaming industry upside down. The Beta Test is coming in early 2020, and you can sign up to be a beta tester here on the Planetarium Discord!
Again, hat tip to Castle Crypto for the info on Nine Chronicles!
